Facial surgery
Facial reconstructive surgery
Trauma and sequelae
Facial trauma ranges from simple skin wounds to extensive injuries of the face, often involving the skull and the brain.
Why it requires a specialised approach
The face is a complex anatomical unit. It is related to the skull, the brain and the neck, and contains critical structures: the eyes, the airway, the digestive tract and the ears, as well as the functions of smell, taste, chewing, swallowing and speech.
For this reason, treatment is planned jointly with the specialties involved.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis and assessment rely on conventional X-rays and computed tomography.
Why timely care matters
Treating the patient in time makes it possible to resolve the emergency and avoid aesthetic and functional sequelae, and facilitates a complete and rapid return to daily life.
Experience in reconstructive surgery
Dr. Juan Ignacio Balestrelli served as a staff plastic surgeon, a position obtained by competitive examination, at the Burns Hospital of the City of Buenos Aires. He is a member of the Programa Cirugía Patria Solidaria, a national plan dedicated to the treatment of cleft lip and palate, burn sequelae and post-oncological breast reconstruction.
